The Pearl Jackson Crosstimbers Preserve Project

Tulsa-based artists Liz Dueck, Sally C Garner, Jason Rafferty, and Brad Rose, in partnership with The Nature Conservancy of Oklahoma, working with the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, will engage in a two year long residency project at the Pearl Jackson Crosstimbers Preserve near Sapulpa, Oklahoma. The newest addition to TNC’s Oklahoma nature preservations, described as a “pristine specimen of the crosstimbers ecoregion” with oak woodlands and tallgrass prairie, is in the process of land restoration, with select opportunities for the public to volunteer in the stewardship process. The preserve is not yet open for regular public visits. The artists will create site-engaged and collaborative works in response to observing the unique flora, fauna, and stories associated with the land through media from sound art and sculptural weaving to video, photography, installation, drawing, and painting. An exhibition will take place at 101 Archer, The Oklahoma Center for the Humanities (OCH) in downtown Tulsa in December 2027. This work is made possible by the OCH Interdisciplinary Humanities Research program. This page will document the unfolding process of the residency leading up to the exhibition.
